Level 3: Life Skills
Strategies:
1. I will allow my students to gain internal motivation by shying away from external rewards. I want my students to be intrinsically motivated so they can go forth and succeed in their lives outside of school. (Olson) 2. Students will be organized into heterogeneous groups to work on their tasks, allowing them to develop interpersonal skills they will use later in life. Group roles will be organized following the picture to the right. 3. I will post several quotes, like the one at the right, which will help to develop perseverance through the challenging tasks they will accomplish. (CCSS Standards of Mathematical Practice) 4. For those students who need them, we will develop Personal Contracts. This tool can help students learn self-control and empower students to take responsibility for their actions. (Villa & Thousand) 5. We will explore the RULER method as a means of coping with our emotions at different class meetings. RULER call for students to Recognize, Understand, Label, Express and Regulate their emotions. (Brackett & Kremenitzer) |
