Level 4: Somewhere Else to Plan
Strategies:
1. I will make efforts to establish a safe "planning room" where students can go if they cannot, or will not meet classroom emotional expectations. This room will be staffed with an adult capable of helping students craft their own plan for re-entering the classroom. (Villa & Thousand)
2. While in this room, students will use the RULER method to gain greater emotional understanding and help craft their future plans. (Brackett & Kremenitzer)
3. After being separated, students will have a follow up meeting we me when they are ready to return. When we meet, I will work with students construct authentic solutions to our problems, not simply to cough up what they think might be expected. (Kohn)
